“May you have the gladness of Christmas, which is hope…”

“May you be blessed with the spirit of the season, which is peace. The gladness of the season, which is hope. And the heart of the season, which is love” is a blessing that has been printed on many images. The season is Christmas.

“May you have the gladness of Christmas which is hope; the spirit of Christmas which is peace, and the heart of Christmas which is love” was said by Mrs. H. B. Ritchie, of Athens, president of Georgia Federation of Women’s Clubs, and printed in The Constitution (Atlanta, GA) on December 23, 1934. “May you have the gladness of Christmas, Which is hope; The spirit of Christmas, Which is peace; The heart of Christmas, Which is love. - ADA V. HENDRICKS” was printed in Christmas Idea Book (1953) by Dorothy Biddle, and Dorothea Johnson Blom. Ada V. Hendricks has been credited since the 1950s, but it’s uncertain that she wrote this as early as 1934.

“Christmas” is often replaced with “the season,” and the order re-arranged. “We hope that whichever holiday you are celebrating, you will know and feel the spirit of the season, which is peace, the gladness of the season, which is hope, and the heart of the season, which is love” was printed in the Rutland (VT) Daily Herald on December 24, 1984. ““A Christmas Blessing During this Christmas season, May you be blessed With the spirit of the season, which is peace, The gladness of the season, which is hope, And the heart of the season, which is love” was posted on the newsgroup enlightened-quotes on December 25, 2008. “During this Christmas season, may you be blessed with the spirit of the season which is peace…..” was posted on X/Twitter by Body Influence on December 16, 2009.

A new thought for this day of miracles….

Today’s meditation:

“A Christmas Blessing
During this Christmas season,
May you be blessed
With the spirit of the season,
which is peace,
The gladness of the season,
which is hope,
And the heart of the season,
which is love

Somehow, not only for Christmas
But all the long year through,
The joy that you give to others
Is the joy that comes back to you.
And the more you spend in blessing
The poor and lonely and sad,
The more of your heart’s possessing
Returns to you glad.”
