“A new supermarket opened near my house…” (joke)

A long joke begins that a new supermarket has opened near the speaker. The supermarket has a variety of smells and sounds—an automatic water mister for the produce, the sound of cows mooing at the milk cases, the sound of hens clucking and cackling at the egg cases, and the smell of freshly buttered corn at the veggie department. The last line is the punchline: “I don’t buy toilet paper there any more.”

The joke was posted on the newsgroup alt.sports.football.pro.oak-raiders  on August 16, 2006.

The new supermarket near our house has an automatic water mister to keep the
produce fresh. Just before it goes on, you hear the sound of distant thunder
and the smell of fresh rain.
When you approach the milk cases, you hear cows mooing and witness the scent
of fresh hay.
When you approach the egg case, you hear hens cluck and cackle and the air is
filled with the pleasing aroma of bacon and eggs frying.
The veggie department features the smell of fresh buttered corn.
I don’t buy toilet paper there any more.
